Tubing
Columbus is the Milan tube maker A.L. Colombo started in 1919, and through the 1970s and early 1980s SL was the top of its range for Italian race frames. It's chrome-moly steel, with double-butted main tubes 0.9 mm at the ends and 0.6 mm in the middle, and Columbus pitched it at road racing on even terrain. The decal carries the Columbus dove, and its look changed over the years: a red dove on gold foil from about 1972, a white dove on red from about 1975, a fatter dove with no name from about 1978. Decals only started naming the set in the mid-1980s, so an older dove decal without SL on it can still be SL. Ask for a sharp photo of the decal and compare it to the bike's year.
