Era
In the early 1990s the shifters moved to the brake levers. Shimano's STI came first and Campagnolo's Ergopower followed in 1992 with an eight-speed rear end, and eight-speed road hubs are spaced at 130 mm. Steel kept improving. Columbus brought out Nivacrom around 1990 and Genius, with shaped butts, in 1991, and Reynolds redesigned its decals again in 1989. TIG welding and new alloy tubes spread through the decade, and aluminium and carbon frames moved into racing. A brazed lugged frame from these years can be a smart buy, because one spaced at 130 mm takes a modern road wheel without any bending.
