A Columbus SL frame with free shipping. Ask whether the fork comes with it, since the original flat-crown De Rosa fork matters on this frame.
De Rosa Super Prestige Vintage 1980s Columbus SL Steel Road Bike Frame 51cm
De Rosa · Columbus SL · late 1970s to early 1980s (dated examples 1977 to 1983)
De Rosa Super Prestige
Before the Professional took over the name at the top of De Rosa's range, there was the Super Prestige. It shares its name with the Super Prestige Pernod, the season-long ranking of pro riders that ran from 1958 to 1987, and Merckx won it in 1973, 1974 and 1975 while riding De Rosa-built bikes for Molteni. Dated examples run from 1977 to 1983, all in Columbus SL with Campagnolo dropouts, De Rosa's diamond-section Diamante chainstays and a flat fork crown. They were usually built with Campagnolo Super Record or Nuovo Record, often with De Rosa-pantographed rings and levers. Dealers describe it as the successor to the 1970s Strada Record and the forerunner of the Professional SLX.
Strada Record (the earlier top road model; later ones are often called Super Prestige)

Tubing, threads, wheels and paint
- Tubing
- Dated Super Prestiges from 1977 to 1983 are Columbus SL, with the small Columbus decal on the seat tube. Columbus decals are brittle and often missing, so don't rule a frame out for a lost decal.
- The frame
- Look for De Rosa's diamond-section Diamante chainstays, Campagnolo dropouts and a flat fork crown. Ask for close photos of the lugs. Heart-shaped cutouts alone don't prove a De Rosa, since other Italian builders used them too.
- Threads and standards
- There's no De Rosa source for the threading here either. Expect Italian (36 x 24, both cups right-hand), as on nearly every Italian frame of the period, and ask what the cups say before ordering parts.
- Wheels
- These were racing frames, often run on tubulars. We found no published rear spacing, so measure it before you buy a wheel.
- Parts it came with
- Dated examples come with Campagnolo Super Record or Nuovo Record, often with De Rosa-pantographed chainrings, brake levers and seatposts. We couldn't find a factory parts list, so treat the build as dealer-assembled and check each part.
- Dating it
- There's no published serial guide. Sellers and dealers date them by decal style and by the date stamps on the Campagnolo parts, such as a year on the rear derailleur.
- Safety jobs
- Don't ride on old tubulars or trust their glue. Fresh brake pads, and a stem and seatpost that move, come next.
Original parts to look for
- Original De Rosa fork
Hard to find if missing
- De Rosa-pantographed Campagnolo parts
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Swapped or missing original parts should come off the price if originality matters to you. For replacements, see our vintage components guide.
What to check
Chrome on the fork and stays can pit, and old tubulars, seized stems and seatposts are common. Heart-shaped lug cutouts show up on other Italian frames too, so check for the Diamante chainstays before you trust a De Rosa claim.
- 01Chainstays: Ask for a photo of the chainstays from above. You should see the diamond-shaped Diamante section.
- 02Dropouts: Ask for a photo of the rear dropouts. They should be Campagnolo, with the name stamped in.
- 03Fork crown: Look at the fork crown in the photos. A flat crown fits the frames we've seen dated.
- 04Decals: Ask for photos of all the decals. Original ones are thin and may be chipped, which is better than a fresh repaint.
- 05Bottom bracket: Ask what's stamped on the bottom bracket cups. 36 x 24 means Italian threading.
- 06Parts dates: Ask for photos of the derailleur and crank backs. Campagnolo date stamps help date the bike.
- 07Seatpost and stem: Ask the seller to raise the seatpost and stem a little. Both should move without force.
New to old steel? Spotting frame damage in listing photos covers lugs, dropouts and rust, and seller red flags covers wrong sizes, swapped parts and repaints sold as original.
Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 19, 2026For $160 more than the bare 51 cm frame, there's a complete one with Campagnolo Record, and that's the one we'd buy. Those two ask $1,520 to $1,680 delivered. On any Super Prestige, look for Diamante chainstays from above, Campagnolo dropouts and a flat fork crown. The third is titled chromoly, not Columbus SL, and asks nearly three times as much at $4,493.

Record parts on the same 51 cm frame for $160 more. Ask for the backs of the derailleur and crank, where Campagnolo's date stamps help date the bike.
