♡♡♡Vintage De Rosa Professional 1988 Campagnolo L'Eroica 48x50 Frame And Fork
De Rosa · Columbus SL · about 1978 to 1987 in Columbus SL
Ugo De Rosa opened his Milan shop in 1953, and by the early 1970s he was the frame builder and mechanic for Eddy Merckx's Molteni team. Bikes from that partnership won the 1974 Giro, Tour and World Championship, and it ran until Merckx retired in 1978. The Professional was the name De Rosa's top road frame carried from the late 1970s through the 1980s. It was built in Columbus SL with De Rosa's diamond-section Diamante chainstays until the move to Columbus SLX around 1986 to 1987. The heart on the decals has been there since 1973, when holes drilled in the head lugs to save weight looked like one, so a heart doesn't date a De Rosa to the 1980s. This page covers the SL frames.

Original parts to look for
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Swapped or missing original parts should come off the price if originality matters to you. For replacements, see our vintage components guide.
Chrome on the fork and stays can pit, and a seized stem or seatpost is common on any old Italian frame. Check that a listing called Professional SL isn't really the later SLX, or the other way round.
New to old steel? Spotting frame damage in listing photos covers lugs, dropouts and rust, and seller red flags covers wrong sizes, swapped parts and repaints sold as original.
Buying guide
By 1988 every Professional was SLX, and none of these titles says SL or SLX. So ask which Columbus tubeset it is before you pay for an SL frame. Only a few are up, mostly $1,870 to $3,150 delivered, and the 1988 frame and fork at $1,866 is the cheapest way in. A 1986 at $1,080 is tempting, but its seller has no feedback.
