Bianchi · Other Columbus tubing · late 1970s (end year unconfirmed)
Bianchi spelled it Rekord, and the name ran through its catalogs as a family of numbered road bikes. The 1973 catalog shows a celeste Rekord 74 with high-strength steel tubes, Universal brakes and tubulars, and by the late 1970s the 748 was the Rekord most buyers knew. It sat below the Specialissima and was a real racing bike for the money. Owners report Columbus Zeta tubing, and a documented example came with Campagnolo Nuovo Gran Sport parts, a pantographed fork crown and a B on the seat stay caps. We couldn't find a Bianchi catalog page for the 748 itself, so check every listing against the bike in the photos. A clean, original 748 is a good way into vintage Italian steel.
Frame check
Hard to find if missing
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Swapped or missing original parts should come off the price if originality matters to you. For replacements, see our vintage components guide.
Expect the usual old-bike jobs on a 748, with seized stems and seatposts, rust inside the tubes, hard tubulars and worn-out brake pads.
New to old steel? Spotting frame damage in listing photos covers lugs, dropouts and rust, and seller red flags covers wrong sizes, swapped parts and repaints sold as original.
Buying guide
This page covers the 748, and just two listings say so, both from one seller at $619 and $1,118 delivered. The cheaper one may be a bare frame, so ask what comes with it. Related Rekords like the 745 and 848 mostly ask $525 to $725. Whatever the title says, read the number on the decals and get a photo of the Columbus label.
$533.85est. delivered
A 1979 Strada at $534 delivered, but nothing in the listing says which Rekord it is. The decals will tell you, so ask for them before you offer.
Vintage Bianchi Rekord Strada 1979 Racing Bike
$533.86est. delivered
Same $534 delivered, and this one at least names its number. It's a 745, a cousin of the 748, so make sure the decals agree with the title.
