Peugeot · Vitus tubing · 1982 to 1984 (US catalogs)
The SV in PSV-10 stands for Super Vitus. This lightweight Peugeot was built from Super Vitus 980, a double-butted steel from the French tube maker Vitus, and it was new in the 1982 US catalog at 21 lb. It came with a chromed Super Vitus fork, Simplex derailleurs, Weinmann sidepulls, a Stronglight crank and Mavic tubulars on Maillard Helicomatic hubs. In 1984 Peugeot split it into the PSV10N on 700c clinchers and the PSV10L on tubulars, and by the 1985 catalog it was gone. It's a light, modern-feeling steel bike from the years between the bike boom and Peugeot's exit from the US.
Frame check
Maillard Helicomatic hubs break spokes and wear cones that are no longer made. Thin Super Vitus tubes dent more easily than plain steel.
New to old steel? Spotting frame damage in listing photos covers lugs, dropouts and rust, and seller red flags covers wrong sizes, swapped parts and repaints sold as original.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for the frame size, the serial number and close photos of the lugs and dropouts, and ask which parts are original. Pass on any seller who won’t answer.
